LEARNING LOG 7

Hey there! Firstly, I find the Romeo and Juliet play really awesome as we finally got to do something that did not require us scribbling away on papers. While making preparations for the nerve wrecking performance, we also had the chance to interact with our fellow classmates. In order to ensure that the performance runs smoothly, members had to frequently meet up to practice our lines as well as to make the props. Hence, it was a memorable experience indeed!

About 1 or 2 months before the performance, my group members and I had to often meet up at various venues. The first few practices we had was mostly to practice our lines and touch up on our acting skills. Then followed by the kissing scene... Well, due to the height difference between vanessa and jiale, not only was it hard for them to kiss with the right angle, how they turn their head to kiss was also important. However, instead of turning his head, Jiale would always end up turning his butt instead. This made many of us laugh our heads off and in order to meet perfection for our kissing scene, Jiale end up having to practice his kissing scene with Qiherng for nearly 3 hours! My! Qiherng became the kissing "guinea pig" for both Jiale and vanessa! The acting part was okay for me as i only had a small role which was the cousin of Lord Capulet. And i have to emphasize that Qiherng really did a great job in acting as the Capulet. There was a part which he did pretty well was when he was shouting at the top of his voices demanding Tybalt to stop acting as a nuisance. He look really annoyed as he was scolding Tybalt. And in addition, JingHan did great acting as Tybalt too! His murderous stare was piercing through us he said his lines with much anger and hatred. Also, Vanessa and Jiale did wonderful as well as they are able to put much emotions in their lines and speech. Vanessa did look really depress and shock as she found out that the one she loved was actually her enemy. However, their kiss still seems very stiff due to the lack of practice.

After we finalize with our acting and lines, we started preparing and for our costumes and props. When I reached JingHan's house for a full dress rehearsal, what surprised me was the clothes i had to fit in. And gosh, the clothes was so freaking small! I had such a hard time fitting into the tightest pants i had ever wore in my whole life and i can't seem to button the top button of the pants. Hence, i was pretty much determine to not have lunch on the actual day of the performance just to fit into the pants. ._. However, on the actual day, i wasn't able to resist the temptation of food! ^^ Anyway, the dress prepared for Vanessa was actually a cute black dress with white polka dots design on it. For jiale, we had a pink panther shirt with a white vest and skinny jeans ready for him. Qiherng, wore a white formal shirt with black long pants. He had a silver tie on which make his outfit look better too. Nurse has a white dress with red belt on which made her look really cute while siew en wore a black dress with maxi prints on it. Director wore a white dress with some design and to add on, she wore a black belt too. Lastly, Jinghan wore something which i don't remember but he did have a black cloak on which make him resembles a superman! or maybe batman. Shuan wore something similar to Qiherng but instead of having a tie on, he had a brown vest on which make him looks smarter.

After settling the costumes came the backdrops and props, and i have to say, we spent the most time on the backdrop as it was huge! On a regular saturday, i went to dawn's house for romeo and juliet rehearsal but instead of having practices, our members were all actually busy painting and drawing the backdrops. Hence, i went to help out too and halfway through, Dawn said that if we feel tired, there are cakes and cuttlefish on the dining table and that we could have some! And yes, i immediately went to have the marble cakes and cuttlefish while Shunhui was making himself "comfortable" at Dawn's house by ransacking through her kitchen for cup noodles. And it was within a few minutes that he and Qiherng finish the cup noodles. Tempted by the noodles, me, Amanda and melissa, went to have some too, and it was awesome! Yum!^^ Dawn was being really nice too letting us watch movie while we paint the props! However, they were mostly Thailand horror movies and Jiale and shaun was the only people watching it. After around 7pm, most people left and we still wasn't able to finish doing the backdrop. Hence, some of us decided to come back again the next day to finish painting the backdrops. The next day, after painting for around 4 to 5 hours, we finally finished painting the backdrop and was super tired and hungry. Then again, Shunhui found some popcorn chicken in Dawn's freezer and decided to have some. We had fun eating the popcorn chicken and it was a memorable experience indeed.

Then came the day of the performance and problems still started to arose. Things like having the backdrop topple down while we were acting the play was one of our main worries. Thus, we use different and a lot kind of tape just make sure the backdrop will stay standing up while we perform. However, the acting was great and the kiss romeo and juliet had looks absolutely real. The dance the member had was also really cute and it really looks like them having lots of fun while they were dancing. Despite being really nervous, our members was also still able to deliver their lines well with emotions. As for me, i think i did screw up a little as i was rushing through my lines, however, i think its a really enjoyable performance!

Lastly, I would most definitely recommend this play to the secondary 1s as i think they would really enjoy the process of preparing for the performance. Also, who wouldn't love having the chance to escape from books and studying? Besides that, I think the secondary 1s would also get to bond more as they would have to often meet up to practice their lines. Thus, i really do enjoy the Romeo ans Juliet performance and i think the secondary 1s would most certainly enjoy it too! ^^

LEARNING LOG 6

After the lesson on literary devices, i had learnt a lot of new and interesting words. For instance, words like onomatopoeia and alliteration may not be seen often in our daily lives but used often instead. We normally use onomatopoeia to echo the sound that we want to describe such as gobble, quack and cackle. On the other hand, alliteration is used by repeating the initial consonant sounds, to produce a rhythmical effect. An example of it is the phrase : a furrow followed tree. Interesting isn't it?

Among all the literary devices that i had learnt, the word which caught my attention the most is the word Oxymoron. Oxymoron is a single image or idea made up of contradictory. Examples of it are, Thundering silence and sweet sorrow. Its just amazing how words of opposite definition could come together and make up a word which actually make sense. Therefore i find this word very interesting and at the same time fun to explore!

Thus i find this lesson on literary devices meaningful as not only does it help us in our examinations but at the same time widen our vocabulary knowledge. Hence, i would like to have such lesson again to learn more new and unseen words .

LEARNING LOG 5

After reading the notes on unseen, I have learn a lot. There were two parts to the unseen notes, the first section was on unseen poems while the second section was on unseen essays. Hence, I would like to start out with unseen poems first.

Approaching an unseen poem may be easy if we follow the right steps such as reading the poem carefully, underlining the keywords in the poem and planning the answers before writing down the answers etc. However, if we do not follow the steps and act rashly such as making general statements without explaining, we are most likely unable to get the marks. Therefore, its best to read carefully and fully understand the poem before answering the questions. There are also ways to organise your answer when answering questions on poems such as using the PEEL method which consist of Point, Elaboration, Evidence and Link.

Secondly, unlike unseen poem, unseen essays not only want students to analysis the text given in detail but also express their ideas coherently and persuasively. Therefore, in order to do well in this section, there must be the introduction, the body which consist of the point, evidence, elaboration and personal response and lastly, the conclusion when answering the questions on the essay. We must also have a clear awareness of the given text's meaning, a logical interpretation of the text and a detailed evaluation of the text and lastly insightful respond to the text to be able to analysis well.

LITERATURE LOG 4

from the macbeth performance,i had many new experiences and had also learn about many important values like teamwork etc. I think it is really fun and interesting as we get to see many performances from other groups and we ourselves get to enjoy the proccess of preparing the props and practicing the scripts. At the same time, although the real performance did not came out as good as how we praticed, it was still exciting as we put in a lot of effort and that it was still a fruitful experience. After this macbeth performance, i am very much looking forward to the next performance, which is Romeo and Juliet as i am looking forward for new experiences and learning new things. i think being able to perform is a great opportunity to boost one's confidence and acting skills.

Lastly, the comments i have for the performance is that it was totally awesome, and it totally rocks!

LITERATURE LOG 3

Predictions are often made by people, sometimes its for fun, sometimes its just base on their six sense. But not all predictions are always real, sometimes predictions could be misleading and turn to be untrue or a prank . Hence, from this lesson on predictions , i have learn that some predictions could be real while sometimes it just a joke made. You never know, therefore, just because someone tells you something like you will forget to bring your spectacles etc , it does not always means that it will be true. So in my opinion, feeling depressed or happy just because someone predicted something good or bad will happened to you is not advisable as it may all just turn out to be a false alarm. But sometimes, we people will still tend to get carried away and believe certain predictions either made by fortune tellers or own six sense.

While for the lesson, i think that it is already really fun , so i think that suggestions is not needed as the lessons are already awesome ! But having more lessons on acting will definitely be much more interesting and we will also get to improve more on our acting.

LEARN !
in the superstitions lesson, i learn that there are many beliefs & myths in different race & countries. Some may be scientifically prove that its real, while other may just be rumours... You will never know ~ :D . therefore, i really had lots of fun ! while during the act 1 scene 1 of macbeth, i have learn more about how to act properly & the purposes of different starts in story . for instance, in macbeth, by using 3 witches to start the play, its shows thar the end of the story may be case of murder or other disaters happening. :D

LEARN !

After the lesson, i have learn lots of things . Most importantly , i learnhow to write a new type of poem. Not only is cinquain interesting , it is also really unique in its own way as there are specific ways to write cinquain. I have also learn that writing a poem is not as wasy as its seems. Although cinquain may only consist of a few words, its really challenging looking for words that best suit the topic or subject. But on the bright side, writing a cinquain is fun too , especially with friends.

i think it is a really good idea letting us work in group as not only will we get ti mix around with different people, our work can be done more efficient as well. And there will be more ideas too. at the same time, we will get more comfortable with new classmates, last but not least, have fun while doing groupworks abd respecting others idea/opinion. Hopefully, we will have more groupworks in the future .

in my opinion, increaing the time limit for us will do us much help as we will have more time to discuss and design our work.
